CSI: Madras

Day 10

Hi all!

Last time we posted we were still in Ikkadu but at the moment we're back in Madras and we've got time for a quick update.

Back at Ikkadu we're half way through painting about four rooms in the boys hostel, which is quite an experience - they're very particular about how we're to paint and we're a little slow to catch on, what with the language barrier and all! But we're getting there and feel like we're making somewhat of a contribution.

On Saturday we drove back to Chennai - after getting up at 5!! Ouch. We were going to the CSI: Madras Dioscese Council Meetings, which went for four days (basically a Synod thing). There were lots of interesting things such as elections, general reports, and debates.

Between many items on the program, different churches presented dances, which were amazing. Some we traditional, others were tamil and some were 'modern'. The most hilarious was a dance to 50 Cent (although they called it 40 Cent :P), in which the girls were dressed traditionally and doing hip-hop. Very amusing - we've got video.

We're headed back to Ikkadu this afternoon and will be painting there for a few more days before heaing into Vellore to see the hospital. We'll post ASAP.

Love to everyone at home and thanks for commenting.

Annie

Thanks for adding more info Annie. Sounds like you are taking everything in your stride. Benji said you were all doing really well and getting into all experiences a lot. I can't wait to see the 40 cent video!! in fact I can't wait to hear all about everthing you have all been up to. Take care of yourselves and look after Rev Benjamin for me! Say g'day to laurena and the rest. I am watching the Golden Globe Awards right now...bet that seems like a life time away!! I think Happy Feet just got an award.
Love and prayers to you all

Hi to you all. Wonderful to hear that all is going so well and that you feel you're making a worthwhile contribution. We are at Middleton. It was 40 degrees today, but at least it wasn't humid! How are you guys finding the humidity? Does the fact that Stuart's stomach is holding up reflect on my cooking? (Alison, :-)) Keep up the good work everybody. You are all constantly in our thoughts and prayers.
Lots of love.

Never mind the video. I do hope you are taking thew chance to work up a similar presentation for the services back home. No names, but....I can hardly wait to see some of the morning congregation stalwarts doing Bangala (is that what you call it? or is Bangala a desert, or a destination?)
Just obtasined a copy of a 4 part-video made by Lochy's church developing the theme of "Big Brother", if Jesus were one of the housemates.Something for SAMs@6 perhaps? Mozoltov to all. Cecily

Hi guys, it sounds like the Synod thing was a lot more exciting and interesting than the Synod thing we have here!!! I hope you are all getting the rest you need to keep functioning! It is very humid here today, rainy and still quite warm, so I guess we are a little like you. My office is right next to the area where they do the printing and posting for the External Students at Tabor, and by the sound of it someone is coming through the wall at any moment! Either that or someone is having trouble with the printer!
Have a great weekend guys, we are counting the days before you are home with us now.
Love
Margaret

just cleaned up and collapsed after the one-day kid's club. WE MISSED YOUSE, though it went quite well. 20 kids, non-stop, slime, shaving cream paintings, volcanoes & veggietales ...you know the drill. Casey wondered how you were doing with the deaf kids. Not to mention the pre-schoolers and the old people, and the schoolkids, and the hospital... You Do get around, don't you?

Hi Everyone, Sounds like you are all having a fantastic time over there and seeing and doing some great things. Hey Benji - just wanted to update you on home. Dad had his ride today and he did really, really well. He finished the course in 3hrs 50mins which is great, he wasn't even that buggered at the end of it. We managed to see him cross the finish line too - not like last year. Some great news for you all - we have had lots and lots of rain!!!! YEah!! It is just lovely. It has poured all day and still pouring now, and again tomorrow. Everything is soaking wet and breathing a sigh of relief. In fact there are now flood warnings - you can't win. meet someone in Victor yesterday who's daughter is on a mission trip with their church in Darwin -small world.
Keep up the great work, Love Em, Jared and Izzy

Lauren et al: good to see evrything going well. Dad has spent most of this week in Melbourne and will have to go back and then to Canberra soon. Flew back in the storm which has dumped all the rain here. Going to a dog show to look at Cairn terriers. Thought we might paint your room bright orange while you were gone. Keep up the good work.
